Re: SLT Training

Mr. Calantjis,

Currently Chancellor’s Regulation A-655 (CR A-655) charges the Office of Family Information and Action (OFIA) [formerly the Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy] and the Office of School Development (OSD) [formerly the Office of School Improvement] with the reponsibility of training SLT members.

OFIA’s team training covers the areas of roles and responsibilities, team operations, assessing school-wide needs, understanding the school budget and how to engage families and communities in the review and development of the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP). OSD’s team training covers the development of the CEP and Title I programmatic requirements. The previous response provided by Ms. Rencher may have overstated the formal role that principals and CFN network staff play in training for members of School Leadership Teams (SLTs). However, while there is no regulatory requirement that they do so, there is an expectation that, in addition to other professional development opportunities offered through the Department, SLTs will receive local informal technical assistance, support, and guidance from school leadership and the network regarding educational program planning and the use of funding to support that plan.

We hope that this response will provide greater clarity and guidance for schools regarding the available support for SLTs.

Regards,

Edward
